Textual Analysis

Media Textual Analysis
The magazine titled ‘College 09’is printed on a black background which is effective used in the right way, in this case it has been used the right way as white text has been printed on it which stands out and attracts the audience’s eye and brings attention to the magazine. The composition of the pictures are scattered in a random order but still keeps the overall shape of a rectangle, which looks like pieces of a puzzle fitted together which connotes that people from all different ethnicities; black, white, yellow, blue or green can join together as one at this university. The image of students in the middle left graduating and smiling this connotes that the university is a successful one were you can achieve success from it. The image of the group of friends in the top left corner shot which could signify the fact that the university is very warm-welcoming and you will eventually fit in like a family, working with one another and meeting new people, as they all look happy and comfortable around each other. The image in the top right hand corner denotes a girl in a scientist uniform who is working very hard, this connotes that the college may have a wide range of subjects the fit all students. In the bottom right hand corner the picture denotes a game of American football which seem to be college students, this connotes that the college has a sports element within it which will attract young athletes to the college. All together the pictures unify as one which emphasizes the fact that the college is a place where you can join a new family, you can be the new piece to the puzzle.
The Anchorage in the picture is a very unique one as it has the name of the magazine in front of the pictures with a slight transparency which dominates the photo, being spelt across the majority of the picture. The text is in 3 different colours of orange, red and white.
The Mise-en scene in this magazine cover is a dark background with images beaming off it to embrace the fact that there are missing pieces to the puzzle, you the reader being the missing piece which the magazine is trying to fit in. Also the non-verbal communication of the students tells us that they are pleased that they passed their exams, they are telling us this through a picture. The woman in her traditional clothing looks almost like she is modelling and that she is proud of her culture.

Questionnaire Evaluation

Evaluation
The introduction was telling the audience what the questionnaire is about given them brief detail about what and why they will be filling out this questionnaire.
Question 1: The first question was to ask the audience their age, this applied to all the students in Christ the King College as the age range was 16 to 19. This was important as different ages may have different interests.
Question 2: This asked the audience what gender they were, 10 answered boys and 10 answered females. The question was important because I wanted to know whether boys and girls have different interests. The results were equal which meant that the research wouldn’t be bias to any gender.
Question 3: This question asked the audience whether or not they liked college, 9  Males answered yes they do like college as well as 10 females enjoyed college, but 1 males did not enjoy college as well. This question may have a slight impact on the results as the people who do not enjoy college may answer differently to those who do enjoy college.
Question 4: This question asked the audience what ideal topic they would like to be featured in the magazine, this included; Music, Sport, Celebrity Gossip, Community and Other which they will fill in themselves. The other category was not filled in, Celebrity Gossip was the highest filled in category both scoring 4 from male and female followed by fashion in which the females scored 3 and the rest were of an average score. This shows that I should focus my magazine on celebrity gossip and fashion which will attract the most consumers.
Question 5: This question asked how much would they spend on a normal magazine? The options varied from under a £1 to £2. The results were surprising as most answered £2 or more which means teenagers are spending money on magazines. This shows that the price can be raised if we are selling a quality magazine.
Question 6: This question asked the audience if they would buy the college magazine. The results from the question showed that more females would buy the magazine than boys, as 8 females and 4 boys answered yes, but 2 females and 6 males answered no. This means that I have to make the magazine as appealing as I can towards both male and female for them to purchase my magazine.
Question 7: This question basically asks how much they would pay for a college magazine if they would buy one. Results were as I expected, most chose under £1 which is not surprising as it is not a popular magazine.
Question 8: This question asked if the audience would like a theme in there magazine like Black history, the majority answered yes and only two answered no. This means that they are interested in different cultures and would like to explore more through my magazine.
Question 9: This question asked if the audience would like the magazine to involve information about their community, everyone answered yes 10 being male and 10 being female. This tells me that the college would like to know information about the community.
Question 10: This asked the audience how often they would like there college magazine to be published? Results fall mainly around Weekly, Monthly and Every half-term. Which gives me a fair idea how often I should publish the college magazine, which I think would be best every half term.
Question 11: This question asked if the magazine should have a career path section and everyone answered yes which shows that they are interested in future plans and career paths.
Question 12: State three colours you would like to contribute to the magazine, the colours mixed from; blue, black, yellow, red, orange, white, green and purple.
